Well, we think it’s important to compare this cost to a brand-new AC installation. If the repair is half of a new replacement cost or more, than we’d urge you to make the more cost-effective choice and install a new system.

We meet a lot of people who have underperforming air conditioners that are 10, 15, and even 20 years old. When we ask them why they still use the air conditioner, they often say “getting it fixed is cheaper than getting it replaced.”
While that might be true, it begs the question, why have an air conditioner at all if it barely keeps your home cool? The costs of repairing a 20-year-old system are almost never worth it if it can barely improve your home’s temperature by 5 or even 10 degrees.
